With the dramatic development in human societies in the past decades, our world is now facing unprecedented multi-faceted global challenges, including economic, social, climatic and environmental crises. In 2015, the UN general assembly set a global framework, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to focus on understanding and tackling these great global challenges. With well-stated 17 categories ranging from health and education for all to the sustainable supply of clear water, food and energy, the UN SDGs are truly ambitious. The goals can be achieved only through the combination of global collective intelligence and engagement of the current & next generations.

And now we'd like to invite you to join this upcoming event on May 25th, to witness how the change makers look at the above-mentioned issues & what are their solutions! We've had a workshop in late January, and the participants have improved the previous prototypes in the past months. This event we'll show the updated versions of their prototypes & progress!

    (clip from the last workshop)

This event will showcase several cool projects made from a one-week-long workshop, which is directly related to iSDG, the premiere global student Co-opetition for UN SDGs, which is aiming at connecting and engaging young people worldwide to propose innovative ideas for SDGs, empowering them with advanced methods, exponential technologies and leading mentorship, supporting their creative team-working and open sharing, and effectively delivering their game-changing ideas into real-world solutions for sustainability.

Let's have a sneak peek at these projects!

    Project 1: Another Me

The Another Me project aims at SDG #15: Life on Land. The team will show a large display screen in the subway station or some public exhibitions. When people pass by, there will be a corresponding wild animal on the screen. It will change along with people’s gesture movements or facial expressions. The animal on the screen is just like another you. It can interact with you & unfold the animal life stories with passers-by, providing an immersive environment for people to reflect their relations with animals. It aims to create the consciousness of protecting animals through the mirror effect, mainly using the technology of motion capture and facial expression recognition.

    Project 2 iDoctor

This project aims for SDG #3: Good Health & Well-being. It developed a low-cost, high-precision diagnostic system for eye diseases. It's equipped with a medical lens that can be mounted on the back of a smartphone to match the smartphone camera module to take patient eye photos, which will be automatically uploaded to the cloud via the APP. With the built-in artificial intelligence algorithms, the APP will provide a diagnosis report immediately.

    Project 3: Brain City

Brain City aims for SDG#11 Sustainable Cities & Communities. It is a smart toy developed for children under the age of 15, with a theme of sustainable community and city. This toy realizes the intelligent responses by means of sensors such as sound, light, gravity, and chips embedded in Lego toys. Children move the relevant scenarios (such as factories, products processing process, shopping malls), with the help of position and scene interaction.

In achieving interesting interaction at the same time, the concept of sustainable community calls for children to think about social status, taking concrete actions to practice sustainable community.

    Project 4 iPi

Iπ Group aims for SDG #3: Good Health & Well-being. During the brainstorm, the team found out that they preferred a project which is valuable to do in a long term rather than a pure idea. So they decided to continue to the drug container project, called "bracelet-shaped drug container for first aid", which develops a bracelet-shaped drug container to do first aid for those patients with heart disease especially when the diseases break out. The main functions of our products include First-aid medicine stroge, Emergency SOS sending, Intelligent medication reminding, Health data recording and All-day monitoring. The team also designed an APP to finish the data analysis.

    Project 5 HeHe

This project also aims for  SDG #3: Good Health & Well-being. It's a smart bottle that encourages children to drink optimal water by combining water drinking and game playing (or other regulations/awards set by parents).

1.Reach the goal of 1,500ml or 1.5 liters (Optimal amount of water intake for kids).

2.If kids reach the goal, they will receive virtual credits from their parents. (Score system).

3.Parents can setup rules with their kids on how kids can use the credits.

    Project 6 Warmly yours

This project aims for SDG#7: Affordable & Clean Energy. Warmly yours - solar and thermic energy initiative - is a proposal for Public-private partnerships. Deeply connected to the SDGs, its primary aim is to solve an identified problem in Shenzhen by the development of energy-producing buildings (installation of solar panels and thermoelectric panels on exterior walls) in order to provide green energy to charging points for electric cars. The model developed is economically viable and can represent an interesting investment for the private sector (rate of interest <3.8% over 25 years). Government subsidies for green energy are expected to increase further the project's competitiveness. We hope to call for investors to make it happen and to extend this project to the creation of a network of locally produced profitable and eco-friendly energies.

Come join us on May 25th to learn about the updated versions of the projects!

    Event Info:

    Time: 19:30 - 21:30, May 25th (Friday), 2018

Place: Chaihuo x.factory (B608, Design Commune, Dashi 2nd Road, Nanshan District, Shenzhen)

Have a look at how the mentor of this workshop Professor Joel Chevrier comments on this:

"In the digital era, all the knowledge is available anywhere anytime for anybody. How we now learn to learn all along the life and together out of our personal silos is more and more a major question.

In Paris, Shenzhen or Mumbai, through workshops dealing with Sustainable Development Goals, some of the major questions of our time, teams of mentors and students explore what it is “to learn by doing”.

We identify that production of a prototype that can be exhibited to general audience, enables students with different backgrounds, personal histories and cultures to work together and to show results that exceeds the sum of member initial competences.

It is now every day easier to manipulate technology. To me this is a breakthrough. Many students projects are based on the use of micro sensors connected to computers. This is the MOVUINO project at CRI Paris. Often Smartphones provide the needed sensors and intelligence in projects. For the coming future, developments such as Seeed Studio Grove Zero STEM Starter Kit will enable students and teachers with no technical background to immediately enter measurements with sensors (one hour needed).  In “learning by doing” sessions, I have already seen how these new tools can dramatically empower students and teachers to develop creativity for innovation."
